The sensitivity is up to 8 now, right? What was if before, just wondering. I played after updating, felt more correct to be playing fast.

I think it is more sensitive now, and follows my playing better, which is what I wanted. I saw an old version of the control panel, but never tried it.

You really need to provide a resumable download -- not everyone has access to a fast or reliable connection. It's not a problem for me, but only a year ago it would have taken me over an hour to download a file that size.

Ooo, my YRG has digested it Cheesy

Oooo and OOO! Yes! Very good!

1) NO where in the update instructions does it say to turn the guitar on...presumably this is a required (unmentioned step)...I guess the USB might automatically turn it on...but I don't think it does.....only supplies power..
Yes it needs to be powered on for the YRG_App to detect the guitar

Quote
2) It looks like my YRG arrived with the latest firmware & library. So which ones did NOT arrive with the latest and thus require the update? Or am I missing something?
Since the new code has been available we are updating units before we ship. You can check your version number by holding the MUSIC button for about 5 seconds ... it will display the version number of the code (C= ....) and library (L=....)

Quote
3) Mentions the download is 59Meg...I could only find one that is about 17meg...apparently the "app"....so what is the 59Meg one?
The app will download the library which is 59M (or more)

Quote
4) When I open the app, it says it has no access to the Internet...which is baloney...I have continuous 25mbs/sec internet connection...so why the error message? What does it mean?...The "Library" section is grayed out...is that because it thinks it has not internet connection...yet it can check to see if my guitar is updated ...must be via the Internet...so how can one section of the app see the Internet and another not see the Internet...very selective of it...why? When/if I can get into the Library, what is it?
Does it ever attempt to download? It could also be a permissions issue ... make sure to run the App in administrator mode with XP SP3 compatibility checked (if Vista or Win7) .. what OS are you using ... We will look into it ...
- sounds like you dont need this or now because your guitar is at latest version

Quote
4) All posts assume all are experts in MIDI...I am not...where can I find easy MIDI for Dummies...what does MIDI cable do? what can it hook to? To get additional sounds, do I need to hook to computer? What programs are good for starters? I saw a youtube of a guy playing violin sounds...how did he do it...it is not the built in violin sound....
You can access other sounds using an external synthesizer via the MIDI jack. Or using a soft synthesizer on your computer and the MIDI over USB ... Ill leave the MIDI explanation to others ... but it is basically just an interface between musical instruments allowing us to trigger notes on external synths and computers.

Quote
5) Sensitivity of strings is pretty poor...seems to be sensitive for a while (ie all strings play) and then multiple strings will not play...why?  How to fix? Especially finger picking.
We are working on the ability to allow you to adjust the sensitivity further yourself. 1. via the control panel app which will be out soon. 2. via the front panel which will be later

Using Updater on PC running Windows XP:

If the Updater application gets stuck at STATUS: 'Looking for Guitar...' and never seems to find the YRG:

1.) Make sure the YRG is connected via USB cable to the computer
2.) the YRG is powered on

If the Updater still does not find the guitar you may have driver conflict. The current known driver that can cause your XP computer to NOT recognize ther YRG is LVUSBSta.sys and I believe it is a Logitech USB video driver for webcams.  The actual Logitech files live in c:\windows\system32\drivers directory.

The easiest way to remove the conflicting Logitecg drivers is to:

quit the Updater app
go to Settings
run Control Panel
run Add Remove Software
unistall Logitech Camera Driver

Run the YRG Updater app again and you should be good to go.

I have read where other XP computer users have actually gone into the Registry and removed low filters and high filters defined throughout the Registry but unless you are an expert Windows user you shouldn't ever consider hacking your Registry.  For further info on LVUSBSta.sys driver conflict issues, searh Google ....

The "Check for Software Updates" is the only relevant software right now - if you have software earlier than 1045 (Press and hold MUSIC to check) it will allow you to download the update.

The Librarian and Emergency reset tool are not available yet ... we are compiling a library of custom sounds and loops that will be available through our store later.

Still encountering dead strings...then when I beat on them, they finally wake up and play...don't know if it  is a defect or just sensitivity issue....

When I hold down "Open", it shows "-1" and "0"....BOTH seem to be the Standard Tuning. If I move it to "1" it seems to be some other tuning...probably Rock e...comments?

Is there any way to remove the Whammy bar...even if I fold it back, it gets in the way...will never use it.

"Music" button is blinking all the time...is that the way it is supposed to work?

Although I am still getting accustomed to the controls, the guitar does seem to spontaneously do things unexpected..."Open" button will glow when I didn't touch it and don't want to change tuning; I will set guitar to a number (say #4) and then look again and it seems to be on some other setting; etc. The -1 and 0 settings in "Open" are puzzling too.

1. leave OPEN on for normal sensitivity on all strings. If OPEN is off the sensitivity of OPEN strings is decreased.
2. OPEN tunings can be selected from 0 and UP .. see the user manual, for custom open tuning see below
3. Whammy bar cannot be removed .. sorry
4. MUSIC button blinking indicates you have changed the preset. To save it hold MUSIC and press RECORD
5. -1 is custom OPEN tuning ....
HERE is the info for custom OPEN tuning
** Custom tuning, Open mode "-1".

This mode allows the player to set a custom "open" tuning that exists as Open mode "-1".
The tuning is saved to the guitar for future use.
    1. Press and hold the OPEN button for two seconds (until the display flashes).  At this
point the LED segment display will show the current custom tuning (defaulting to
standard tuning if this is the first time).  As each string LED lights, the segment display
will show the current note name for that string.
    2. Using the 12th fret as a reference, press the a fret above or below that point to select
the new open note for that string.  For example, to set "Dropped-D" tuning, press the
10th fret (D) on the lowest string.  This will set the open tuning for that string to the
       D below standard E tuning.
    3. Release the OPEN button.  Your custom tuning will now be saved under Open mode "-1".
To return to standard tuning select Open mode "0".

Can you provide a step-by-step if I want to set up some customized presets...Cust Preset #1 wld be Synth#18 + Open#56....and Cust Preset #2 w/b Guitar#1 + Synth#50 + Open#1. So I can play Custom Preset #1 for the first song and then switch to custom preset for song #2....Thanks...

Go to Preset #1
- Use UP down arrow to go to preset #1
- use fret select (while holding MUSIC,  select a fret)
- LED blinks until preset has loaded
--set Synth 18: while holding SYNTH and use fret select to get synth 18 (18th fret on Low E string)
MUSIC led blinks to indicate you have changed the preset
--set Open 56: hold open and cursor up to 56
--while holding MUSIC press RECORD to save the preset

Preset #2
- use fret select to go to preset #2, hold MUSIC and press fret #2 on Low E
- select Guitar #1: while holding guitar, press fret #1 on Low E string
- select Synth #50: while holding SYNTH press 10'th fret on D string
--while holding MUSIC press RECORD to save the preset

Sorry for the confusion. You indeed have the current version.

The updater shows 1.3.1.9, the YRG shows 1045 and they are the same.

Programmers will rectify this in future revs of the Updater and YRG firmware.
