I am a "newbie" with the YRG.  To an extent, I have given up on the right hand strings. I am triggering everything in tap mode.  However, I am not getting the variable velocity I could have hoped for.  You know: tap lightly and get a gentler, quieter triggering; tap harder and get a louder dynamic from the VSTi.  Being a MIDI wannabe who lacks real expertise, I was hoping someone could just tell me how to set up for better dynamic variety in tap-only mode.  Is tap mode outputting velocity data at all?

Hi Zeugital

The YRG does sense velocity tapping. There is a control for global tap velocity that can be set by holding the TAP button and adjusting the volume control, but this is global and will not vary with your tapping strength.

Best is to get the right hand working. If you need some help, please contact our support team:

This is what I do not understand. Why is each owner left alone to spend hours, days and weeks trying to work out an optimally playable configuration with his or her YRG?  Why is there not a universal optimal setup good for each and every one of us?  A way to have six equally sensitive strings for the right hand to pick?  I have spent hours trying to get all these settings balanced and, as I've said, have given up on the six strings.  If the thing had variable velocity output in tapping mode, it would be excellent all by itself and i would buy the model that had no strings at all.  Just a big neck for tapping only.  This neck could have eight, or ten strings like Narcisso Ypes.  I have played the guitar since the 70s.  I have lusted after MIDI control and virtual instruments since the 90s. There has been no affordable solution until the YRG, but it has problems of its own. I paid twice the price for the Gen2 in the expectation that many/most of the "bugs" had been worked out.  I still have not found it truly playable, and if it is, will someone please tell me straight forwardly how it is supposed to be set up?  There is no action, there are no saddles, no intonation, no complications from string gauges, no tuning.  There should be one way for these instruments to be set up for each and every player.  Tell me what it is.  Why should this need a service ticket opened for an individual and secretive solution?  It makes no sense.

We have players that are able to just play as is, but because of the vast and many variable factors of each guitarists playing style and performance, we try to provide a universal solution that has taken much time working out. It is unfortunate that one setting may not work for another person or even another sound. We do believe that being able to set the instrument to ones personal playing style is paramount. As you may know this is why MIDI has been really difficult to do. We continuously provide support to our users, and we would love to get your guitar to optimum playing. Please drop us a note at info@yourockguitar.com and we will have someone get with you immediately.

Thanks for your support!

I, too, have spent lots of time "getting it right", (especially the strings) and it has paid off. Although it does take a bit of time and tweeking, it is possible to dial it in to your particular playing style. As other posts mention, it might help to look at the YRG as a slightly different instrument than an actual guitar. Time and patience have paid off for me. gstik has mentioned that is why the adjustments are there, to be able to tweak it in to one's style, I'd like to believe they thought of that while designing the instrument. I really look at mine seperately from a guitar and see it as it's own instrument that let's me do new creative things with the skills I have acquired as a guitarist. I think that's the best approach to getting the most out of the YRG, repect it as it's own entity and use what you know to make it fun and user freindly!
