  • Press and hold the MUSIC button for two seconds.
  • The 7-segment display will cycle through the firmware, sound library and preset versions (C=1149 - firmware v 1.149; L=0008 - sound library v 8; P=0020 - preset table v 20).

How do I get my YRG to work with Guitar Hero/Rockband?

  • A Gameflex™ cartridge is required. If you are not using the optional Gameflex™ cartridge system, you will be unable to play Guitar Hero or Rockband with the YRG. Each Game system uses a separate cartridge: Only Wii™ and PS3™are currently supported.

    • PS3
      • Insert a PS3 Gameflex cartridge into the guitar.
      • Insert the USB dongle included with your Gameflex cartridge into one of the USB ports on your PS3.
      • With the YRG and the PS3 powered on, press the GAME button on the guitar’s control panel. Your guitar’s LED should now display the number ‘2’. If this number is blinking, your cartridge and USB dongle need to be synced (see ‘Syncing your Gameflex cartridge’ below). If the number is solid, however, they are synced already.

    • Wii
      • Insert a Wii Gameflex cartridge into the guitar.
      • With the YRG and the Wii powered on, press the GAME button on the guitar’s control panel. Your guitar’s LED should now display the number ‘1’. If this number is blinking, your cartridge needs to be synced with your Wii (see ‘Syncing your Gameflex cartridge’ below). If the number is solid, however, they are synced already.

  • To sync:
    • PS3
      • Press the blue, semicircular button on the Gameflex cartridge inserted into your guitar.
      • Press the button on the USB dongle inserted into your PS3’s USB port. The dongle LED will begin to flash rapidly. When it stops blinking, the ‘2’ displayed on the YRG in GAME mode will be solid. The Gameflex cartridge is now synced.

    • Wii
      • Open the front panel of your Wii console, and press the red Sync button there.
      • Press the RECORD(.) button on the control panel. After a few moments, the '1' on the guitar LED display will stop flashing. The Gameflex cartridge is now synced.

  • Once these steps are complete, you can use the YRG’s joystick and colored frets to navigate your console’s home screen and in-game menus.

What is a Preset?

  • A Preset (#1~#99) in the YRG is a collection of data that determines what sounds you hear, tuning, transposition, MIDI assignments, etc.  You can edit the Preset parameter data either directly from the LCD panel of the YRG using the subMenus or by using the PC or Mac versions of the YRG Preset & Performance Editor (PPE).

  • When you select a Preset, data is recalled from the Preset memory storage area (flash memory) and written into the temporary performance buffer (sdram) .  This data includes all the Preset data mentioned above as well as the Synth sound samples and the soundloop sample (track) assigned to the Preset.

  • When you make any changes to the current Preset parameters, you are changing values in the sdram buffer, not the flash memory.

I was in Preset #1 and made some edits. Then I selected Preset #2 but when I went back to Preset #1, all my edits disappeared. What happened?

  • If you have edited the current Preset and then recall another Preset before storing your edits back to Preset memory storage using MUSIC + RECORD(.) buttons, all your current edits are lost.  The new Preset request overwrites all the data in the sdram performance buffer thereby clobbering all your edits.

Is it possible to leave the original patch as is and create another patch with the new parameters?

  • No, you would need a Preset Copy feature, therefore, you must start the editing process in the Preset where it will be stored.

What does flashing red MUSIC button mean (everything else works)?

  • Flashing red MUSIC button while all else is working means that you have changed the Preset (changed Guitar sound, Synth sound, turned on/off  TAP, SLIDE, etc.)

  • The MUSIC button will stop flashing if you save the Preset (by holding MUSIC and pressing RECORD(.)) or if you switch to a different Preset (which will ignore the changes you made).

Why does my guitar patch change when I change Presets?

  • Within each Preset you can assign and save a guitar patch, a synth patch, a track patch, slide, tap, open, you rock modes and volumes.

  • To save your current settings, press and hold the MUSIC button while also pressing RECORD(.).

How do I reset to factory settings?

  • While pressing and holding the GUITAR and SYNTH buttons, press the TRACK button.  This will restore or Presets to their default settings.

  • This will NOT reset your firmware version.

Can I layer two guitar sounds?

  • As of firmware revision v 1.149, each Preset can only have one Guitar and one Synth simultaneously.

How do I change Guitar/Synth sounds?

  • To change the Guitar assignment, press and hold the GUITAR button down WHILE using the up or down arrow buttons on the YRG button panel.  The Guitar may also be selected by tapping a fret (Fret Select) on the fingerboard while pressing and holding the GUITAR button.

  • The same methods may be used to change Synth sounds by using the SYNTH button instead.
