I agree with all those who have problems switching between our YRG's and standard guitars in performance - I end up playing a whole step high if I don't really concentrate, and that interferes with my music in a major way!

I've seen a lot of suggestions for Strat-dimension necks, but I've played Guild and Ibanez for ever (currently an SE)…I think a good compromise would be a 3/4 size neck with very minor adjustment to "fret" spacing, primarily at the high end.
I was very impressed with the fingerboard on the 1960's Guild M-65 Freshman and think it would be ideal for the purpose.

How hard would it be to do a custom retrofit on customer-supplied necks? Something to think about…the YRG's totally flat fingerboard is kind of a chore, but on the other hand the YRG itself is totally cool - keep up the good work!!

IMHO a 3/4 size neck would not help in this respect.

I am quite sure that the 'length' of most guitar necks is the same - take your YRG and place it on your Guild or Ibanez so that the 12th frets align. You will see the same effect as with a Strat neck. It is the same effect at least with my acoustic guitars (Martin and Taylor).
Above the 12th fret it is a different story when it comes to the number of frets. BUT the spacing is always more or less the same. You stated the reason for this in your post: It would interfere with your music in a major way any time you changed the guitar...

My suggestion is not to ask to change the shape or width of the fingerboard. Because when you touch this aspect of the YRG, the whole neck has to be redesigned, i.e. a new (plastic mold) tool set for the production would be required. It would make a standard neck (= with standard fret spacing) extremely expensive!
A standard neck will 'only' require a redesigned fingerboard surface (which probably is pretty costly already), the neck itself incl. the connectors can be kept.

It would be really interesting to hear something from Inspired Instruments.

Thanks for your input - I've looked at your pics on Flickr, and I understand what you're saying. Strangely I have no problem with the spacing above the 12th fret on the YRG, it's the 1st to 6th positions that put my brain in a bench clamp when I switch from one to the other! Maybe I just have to work on it…? When I said 3/4 neck I really was thinking short-scale…
Yeah, it probably would be expensive, but what the hell, still less than a Roland type guitar and still more fun…

I just try and look at all my guitars as separate instruments that I play differently. My two main guitars are a baritone and a 7 string so whether going from the longer scale neck of the baritone to the YRG or the extra wide neck on the 7 string to the YRG I already know it's going to feel equally different in my hands. I think it's similar to switching from an acoustic to say a Tele or something on stage, you just work up that part of the song on each instrument and get the feel for switching them. But I do know they have some great prototypes for better necks and so forth so it'll be cool to see where they take it next!
