I am using the You Rock with a Roland GR 33 and connot get it to play more than 2 strings at a time( can't play chords).  I can get it to play all strings one at a time. I can also get it to play the top two or the bottom two at a time.  I have tried setting it to every midi channel.  Is this just a limitation of the Roland or am I doing something wrong?

Not quite sure, have you tried to set the YRG on MIDI 17, 18, 19 or 20 which transmit each string on a separate MIDI channel? The Roland may only allow 2 voices per channel ... let us know if this helps.

I have tried this.  On channels 1-10, no strings work. On channels 11-16 all strings work but only one at a time. Channel 17, nothing. Channel 18 the bottom two strings both work and at the same time. Channel 19, nothing. Channel 20 the top two strings both work and at the same time.

I checked the Roland GR 33 User manual and is says the default setting of the GR 33 is Channel 11 (mono mode) - this means the GR33 is transmitting and receiving single notes on: channels : 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16

On the YRG MIDI 1 ~ 16 sends all notes (poly mode) only on the selected individual channels. for MIDI 17~20 it transmits in mono modes as shown below - which explains what you are seeing.

The solution would be to either set the GR 33 to poly mode and use YRG MIDI 1~16. Or leave the  GR 33 in mono mode and change the basic channel to 1 then set the YRG to MIDI 17.

The GR33 manual states:

FROM ROLAND
1. Press [SYSTEM] to enter System mode.
2. Press [PARAMETER] to select “BASIC CHANNEL.”
3. Use [VALUE] to select the setting value.
BASIC CHANNEL can be set to values of “Mono 1–11”
(mono mode transmission) and “Poly 1–16” (poly mode
transmission).
* When transmitting in Mono mode, six consecutive channels
are used. For this reason, it is not possible to select 12--16 as
one of the first channels (BASIC CHANNEL).

Wow that's helpful! I was wondering if anyone had integrated these two synth devices together

After much experimenting, I have found that on my gen2, setting midi to channel 11 and the GR-33 to  basic channel poly 1 works like a charm. I am in yourock heaven now!

I set my YRG to whatever the polyphonic default was (1?), set the GR-33 to polyphonic channel 1. The Roland may default to monophonic 1 upon reset. Its in System.
