I've tried, and I've tried, but I just can't figure out how to assign each individual string to a separate software instrument in Logic Express 9!
I've seen it done on YouTube, but no explanation as how to…
I create six instruments, but can only get them to sound by arming the record button on each track, and then they all sound in unison.
How do I get each string to play a different sound without having all the other tracks kick in?
Help!

Have you set the MIDI mode in the control panel to assign a MIDI channel to each string? Each string then gets assigned to individual "instruments" on seperate MIDI channels ,assigned by you on each instrument.

Thanks, bob…your comment about MIDI assign led me to the Logic manual, where I came up up with this…

"In Logic, choose Settings > Recording, and under MIDI, select Auto … by channel if multitrack recording.
Choose a MIDI channel for each controller, and refer to each controller's manual to see how to change the MIDI channel they transmit on.
In Logic, set each instrument track's MIDI channel parameter so they are triggered by the controller sending on that channel.
Record-arm each Logic track."

I did all this, repeating some of what I'd already tried…still no luck!
Finally it occurred to me that setting the MIDI in the YRG control panel was maybe not enough, so I hit the MIDI button on the guitar and Voila!, it was on channel 1 - I set it to 17, and bingo!!
Okay, now I'm all set to waste a whole bunch of time dinking around!
Will shortly be getting MainStage, look out…

Thanks again

Yeah 17 I believe runs on multiple midi channels so with certain programs this has to be adjusted to get the best connectivity.

This is correct. To be a little bit more specific-

MIDI selections 1 - 16 transmit data for all of the strings on the channel selected.

Channels 17, 18, 19, and 20 all transmit in MIDI mono mode-- that is, each string on it's own channel.

To get even more specific-

MIDI 17 transmits on (1~6)
MIDI 18 transmits on (7~12)
MIDI 19 transmits on (6~1)
MIDI 20 transmits on (12~7)

Hope that helps!

Now that's a proper explanation! Thanks
