Will it be possible to order and upgrade a GEN1 device with GEN2 pickups?
When will GEN2 software be available for GEN1 devices?

Hwhalen, I think their more interested in selling the Gen 2 hardware rather than taking care of the Gen 1 customers.

I inquired myself about this and the reply I got was this:

Thank you for your interest in the YouRock Guitar - YRG. The information about <Gen2> is up on the website now with notations on key feature changes. The form factor (hardware) remains the same except for our new pick-up system which is the only hardware change.

We will continue to support our generation one model, and it will be upgradable to the Gen2, but there will be a cost to do that. This will not be available for some months yet.

Please let us know if you have any further questions or if we can be of assistance in any way.

Thanks again for making contact and have a wonderful YouRock day!

Best Regards,

So yeah patience is the key there I guess.

My question is if the only change is the pickup system, and the form factor remains the same, why will it take months to make the software and pickups available to Gen 1 customers? I can somewhat understand a delay info the hardware, but the software should be made available right away. I don't think anyone would cry about the cost to upgrade. Just seems like months away is something we've heard before.

Just to clarify - Their reply is in italics. I added my 2 cents at the end  saying "So yeah patience is the key there I guess."

I'm looking to upgrade too or atleast get a discount on Version 2 or the special edition.  Smiley Are we getting close to this by now?

"YRG-1000 Loyalty Program for Gen1 Customers "

July 3, 2012

The YRG-1000 Gen2 will replace the Gen1 and will be the only product in its family (YRG-1000) produced by Inspired instruments Inc.  It will be launched early August 2012.

So what does this mean for the Gen1 and existing customers?

Well, production of the YRG-1000 Gen1 is complete.  The YRG-1000 Gen2 will replace it as our primary product. Customer, technical, and bug support will continue for all models. Furthermore, we will continue working to implement DLC functionality for both platforms and plan on offering some upgrade paths for Gen1 users.

We recognize that some of our existing Gen1 customers may want to upgrade and we value that support.  So in the spirit of support we will be offering a YRG customer loyalty program.  Our existing Gen1 customers will be able to upgrade or trade in their units to  receive a discount on a Gen2. We have not figured out the specifics of the program, but will be sure to announce it before our DLC goes online.

So what makes the Gen2 different from the Gen1?

Since we launched the YRG-1000 in mid 2010 we’ve learned a huge amount about our own product.  Through a series of firmware upgrades we were able to build the Gen1 into a stable, affordable, and powerful MIDI guitar. However, the production and testing process for our product is extremely complicated.  Having the product produced overseas has helped us keep the price down, but it has also been a cause of some technical and performance issues.  To mitigate these issues we have moved final assembly, test, and QC from China to our California facility.  In addition to the procedural change we made several design improvements to our pickup system which will increase consistency and reliability.  The new design allows for more dynamic control over the feel (loosening and tightening), trigger, and gain parameters.

More over, the Gen2 platform has new onboard sound drivers, substantially increasing the value of the onboard synth. We have also included features that increase the amount of control the user has of the onboard synth, external MIDI devices ie: DAWS, composition, and notation software.

There was a post earlier this week by one of the higher ups over at Inspired Instruments that said they were working on the DLC stuff this week so I'm sure it has to be hitting the streets pretty soon. If I find out any more details or specifics that I can pass on I sure will.

I'm glad to hear that an upgrade or trade in deal is in the works. I wish more companies would do this when they improve their core products. Takes the sting out of being early adopters. Count me as a potential up grader, assuming the price is affordable.

I dont know how the guitar innards are laid out, but if the electronics are easily swappable, you might consider selling a user installable upgrade kit. I'm sure this would be less costly than any factory serviced upgrade. I have no problem opening up electronic devices and swapping out boards, assuming there is no soldering involved.I have done it multiple times with computers, laptops, cell phones, etc.

There was a similar discussion about adding a modifications section to the forum and the problem with that was that it creates allot of issues in regards to the warranty coverage. This would play out the same way. Even though there would be specific instructions there is always room for error and this could cause all kinds of problems when trying to uphold the warranty coverage. I'll be speaking with some folks at the company today and if I can get any updates on the DLC stuff that I can pass along I sure will.
